Service Objectives

The Elders Ministry and Support Centre was established on June 15, 2007.

The goal is to develop elder leaders to care for seniors who are in need in the community.

Service Contents

Through the Forever Young Project organized jointly with the Kowloon Methodist Church, our Centre acts as a bridge between the community and the Church.

This year, we are organizing numerous lifelong learning courses, including, for example, classes in: calligraphy and painting, line dancing, computer basics, art of living through healthy food, Chinese medicine for seniors, flower arrangement for the Chinese New Year, faith sharing ambassadors and senior volunteer training, and singing class for golden hit songs.

Through organizing meaningful and enjoyable continuous learning classes, we hope to facilitate seniors to make good use of their leisure time, and to add value to life. At the same time, we will further collaborate with the Church to run the ‘Volunteer Training Programme for Seniors’ to equip our parishioners to participate in evangelical work and caring for the elderly in the community.

Service Target

Classes and Activities

Line Dance Class

Line Dancing has been popular in western countries for many years. The steps are simple and easy to learn; the physical demand is moderate; no dance partner is needed, and no restriction on gender and age to dance in this form. The benefits of exercising through line dancing on a long term basis include: maintain alertness, strengthen heart and lung functions, prevent osteoporosis, extend social circle, and improve the joy of living.

Anniversary Celebration

Our Centre has been established for two years . To encourage our members to participate and to remain active, we are organizing an Anniversary Celebration for members to get together and to be commended.

The Art of Living – Healthy Eating Class

By using everyday life examples and demonstrations, the Registered Physiotherapist teaches simple exercises to improve joint movements, while the Registered Nutritionist guides participants towards a balanced diet to enable seniors to maintain stable health and agility through regular exercises.
