Service Objectives
Our Agency responds proactively to provide different retraining courses to meet the needs of disadvantaged persons living in different districts, in order to help them to improve their ability to compete in the job market, to encourage them to participate in society, to make good use of their acquired skills and to work towards a financially independent life.
Service Contents
Since 1998, we have begun offering a certificate course for janitor training, with the objective of teaching certified janitor cleaning skills for trainees in our rehabilitation service. As our Agency begins working with people from ethnic minorities who face many difficulties in find work in Hong Kong, we have also begun organizing courses in English to help non-Chinese speaking trainees improve their work skills and their ability to compete in the job market. Moreover, we have responded to the needs of the general public, and have since 2009, begun to provide retraining courses for residents in the Tin Shui Wai district.
Service Target
- Retraining courses for rehabilitated persons: Hong Kong eligible employees, persons with mental illness or intellectual disability
- Ethnic Minority Retraining Course: Hong Kong eligible employees, English and Cantonese speakers
- General retraining courses (placement-tied courses): Hong Kong eligible employees, aged 15 or above and unemployed/uneducated persons

Training for Disabled Persons
I.YM007DR – Foundation Certificate in Janitor Training (Placement-tied)
Course Objective: Enable ex-mentally ill persons or mentally <handicapped or disabled> persons to learn and use the cleaning skills and techniques required in janitorial work, and to assist them to secure employment in the cleaning or related industries.
Course outline: Introduction to cleaning work and its job market; basic knowledge of janitorial work, cleaning skills, information and operation skills for different types of cleaning equipment, customer service, work-related English and Putonghua, personal attributes and job search skills.
Entry requirement: For 3 level or above, or have completed Primary 6, plus two or more years of work experience. Selection of applicants who have not completed P. 6 will depend on a personal interview to decide if they will be accepted for training.
Course duration: 198 hours
2. Training for Ethnic Minorities
I. YM011DS – Foundation Certificate in Barista Training (English Medium) 咖啡調製員基礎證書 (英語授課) (Placement-tied Full-time Course)
Course Objective: To enable trainees to understand basic knowledge and culture of coffee, and to grasp the techniques and skills of coffee modulation; and help them secure employment as a Barista.
Course Outline:
i. Skills Training (Basic Knowledge of Coffee, Coffee Modulation Techniques, Daily Operation of a Coffee Shop and Roles of a Barista, Milk Tea, Modulation Techniques of other Beverages)
ii. Skill Training: First Aid and Personal Hygiene
iii. Personal Attributes and Job Search Skills
iv. Course Assessment
Entry Requirements: i. Form Three or above, or Primary Six with at least two years’ work experience; and
ii. Pass the English entry test; and
iii. Interest in Barista or related work; and
iv. Demonstrate inclination for employment at the admission interview
Course Duration: 160 hours (15 whole days and 10 half days, about 8 weeks)
II.YM007HS -Foundation Certificate in Pastries Making (Cakes) (English Medium) (Part-time) 西餅製作(蛋糕類)基礎證書 (英語授課) (兼讀制)
Course Objective: To equip trainees with knowledge of features of sponge cakes and gateaux and their preparation
Course Outline:
i. Skills Training (Work ethics and conduct of catering workers, Cake making theory, Cake making and advance, Non-baked cake and advance)
ii. Course Assessment
Entry Requirements: i. At least half year’s working experience in the catering industry; and
ii. Pass the English entry test
Course Duration: 30 hours
III. YM017DS – Foundation Certificate in Nail Technician Training (English Medium) 美甲師基礎證書 (英語授課) (Placement-tied Full-time Course)
Course Objective:
i. To equip trainees with basic knowledge and techniques of an Assistant Nail Technician, to meet the demand of related industry;
ii. To furnish trainees with an overview of the Manicure industry in Hong Kong and enable them to grasp the knowledge and skills in providing customer services;
iii. To help trainees secure an employment as a Nail Technician or Assistant Nail Technician.

Entry Requirements: i. Completion of Form Three, or completion of Primary Six with at least two years’ work experience; and
ii. Pass the English entry test; and

Course Duration: 120 hours (11 whole days and 8 half days, about 7 weeks)
IV. YM015DS Foundation Certificate in Bookkeeping (LCCI Level 1 Bookkeeping Examination) (English Medium) 簿記 (LCCI Level 1 Bookkeeping 考試) 基礎證書 (英語授課) (Placement-tied Full-time Course)
Course Objective: To equip trainees wi th essent ial ski l ls and knowledge in basic bookkeeping, assist them to take the LCCI Level 1 Bookkeeping (VRQ) Examinat ion and help them to secure employment as an account ing clerk or related position.
Course Outline:
i. Industry Overview
ii. Skill Trainings (Books of Original Entry and Double-Entry, Accounting for Payroll, Control Accounts, Produce Financial Statements of a Sole Trader)
iii. Personal Attributes and Job Search Skills
Entry Requirements: i. Form Three; and
ii. Possess good English communication skills; and
iii. Pass English and Mathematics entry test; and
iv. Demonstrate inclination for accounting jobs at the admission interview.
Course Duration: 156 hours (15 whole days and 9 half days, about 8 weeks)
V. YM018DS – Foundation Certificate in Junior Chef in Western Cuisine Training (English Medium) 西式助理廚師基礎證書 (英語授課) (Placement-tied Full-time Course)
Course Objective: To equip trainees with practical Western cooking skills, and help them secure employment as a Junior Chef in Western cuisine or related work.
Course Outline:
i. Industry Overview
ii. Skills Training (Kitchen Management, Industry-related terminology, Product Knowledge, Practical cooking skills, Site Visit)
iii. Personal Attributes and Job Search Skills
iv. Course Assessment
Entry Requirements: i. Pass the English entry test; and
ii. Interest in becoming a Junior Chef in Western cuisine or related work; and
iii. Demonstrate inclination for employment at the admission interview
Course Duration: 160 hours(15 whole days and 10 half days, about 8 weeks)
3. Retraining Courses for the General Public
Course Objectives:
I.YM010DS – Foundation Certificate in Junior Beautician Training (Placement-tied Course)
Course Objectives:
1. To acquire basic knowledge and skills for the work of a Junior Beautician, as required in the industry;
2. To help trainees understand the beautician industry and requirements, and to become proficient in knowledge and skills in serving customers;
3. To assist the course graduates to find relevant work, e.g. as a Junior Beautician or a Beautician Assistant.
Course Outline: Introduction to the Beautician field of work, skin analyses and cleansing, facial skin care, massage techniques (including the face, neck, shoulders and back), aesthetics and knowledge of cosmetic products and tools, eye care, hair removal, hand care and nail care, knowledge of different beautician equipment, work hygiene and safety, English and Putonghua for work purpose, personal attributes and job search skills.
Entry Requirements: Form 3 educational level, and
• Can read and write work-related Chinese; and
• Are motivated to work in the said industry; and
• Are interested in beautician work; and
• Are successful in the selection interview.
Course Duration: 180 hours (ca. 9 weeks)
II. YM014DS – Foundation Certificate in Cosmetician Assistant Training (Placement-tied Course)
Course Objectives:
1. To enable trainees to obtain basic knowledge and skills as a Cosmetician Assistant, in order to meet the needs of the industry;
2. To enable trainees to understand the culture and requirements of the beautician industry, as well as the knowledge and skills for customer service;
3. To assist course graduates to find relevant work, e.g. as cosmetician assistant;
Course Outline: Introduction to the cosmetician industry, professional ethics, cosmetic treatment skills, hair style design and treatment, language training, personal attributes and job search skills.
Entry requirements: Form 3 educational level, or P6 plus 2 or more years of work experience, and
• Are motivated for work; and
• Are interested in the cosmetician field; and
• Are successful in the selection interview
Course Duration:112 hours (ca. 7 weeks)
III. YM016DS – Foundation Certificate in Nail Technician Training (Placement-tied) Course
Course Objectives:
1. To enable trainees to obtain knowledge and skills for the work of a Nail Technician, in order to meet the manpower needs in the industry;
2. To enable trainees to understand the culture and needs of the industry, including the knowledge and skills in customer service;
3. To assist graduates to find relevant work, e.g. as a nail technician assistant.
Course Outline: Introduction to the Nail Technician field of work, personal and occupational hygiene issues; physiology of hands, feet and nails, nail clipping skills, massage skills (for hands and legs), nail designs, skills for working on nail implants, crystal nails; personal attributes and job search skills.
Entry Requirements:
Form 3 education level, or P.6 plus at least 2 years of work experience; and
• Can read and write General Chinese; and
• Are motivated to work; and
• Are Interested in nail technician’s field of work; and
• Are successful in the selection interview.
Course Duration: 120 hours (ca. 7 weeks)
